Located roughly 12 kilometers from the city center, Da Phu Hill is one of Da Lat’s most celebrated “cloud hunting” spots. It’s an undeveloped, quiet location where visitors camp overnight to catch the sunrise breaking over a thick sea of clouds.

About

Da Phu Hill has earned its reputation among local photographers and nature enthusiasts as one of the best places to witness the famous Da Lat cloud phenomenon. The hill sits at an elevation that places it right at the cloud line, meaning on the right mornings, you’re literally standing above a blanket of white mist that fills the valleys below.

The experience of camping here is as much about the journey as the destination. Setting up camp on the grassy hillside, watching the stars emerge over the highlands, and then waking before dawn to witness the sky slowly light up — it’s one of Da Lat’s most memorable experiences.

The area remains largely undeveloped, which is part of its charm. There are no facilities, no restaurants, no gift shops — just you, the hill, and the clouds. This raw, unpolished quality attracts visitors who want to experience Da Lat’s natural beauty without the tourist trappings.

The sunrise here is legendary. As the first light breaks over the horizon, the thick cloud layer below begins to glow, creating an ethereal sea of white and gold. Photographers often spend hours capturing the changing light as the sun rises higher and the clouds begin to dissipate.

The View

From Da Phu Hill, you’ll see:

  • Sea of clouds — A thick blanket of mist filling the valleys below, stretching to the horizon
  • Sunrise spectacle — The sky transforming from deep purple to orange to gold as the sun rises
  • Starry skies — Minimal light pollution makes for excellent stargazing the night before
  • Rolling highlands — The surrounding hills and mountains emerging from the mist as the morning progresses
  • Pine silhouettes — Dark tree outlines against the glowing cloud layer
